Six hours of a foreign language is also required for a state endorsement. These hours can be at the college or graduate level. Testing out of this requirement through an MLA or CLEP test is also permitted.

EDCI 521 - Curriculum Development for Language Learners (prerequisites EDCI 516, 519)
EDCI 777 - Research to Practice (prerequisite EDRS 590). This course must be taken last.
Additional Requirements for Non-Licensed Teachers, Instructional Aides and Teacher Assistants
EDUC 511 (3 credit hours) – Introduction to Teaching (Includes Human Growth and Development; will count as approved elective if complete master’s degree course work)
EDCI 790 (6 credit hours) – Internship
A composite score of 532 on the Praxis I exam is required to be admitted to the FAST TRAIN program and a passing score on the VCLA is required before applying for state licensure.
*A Master’s degree in ESOL requires completion of both licensure course work (21 credit hours) plus additional Master’s degree course work (9 credit hours) for a total of 30 credit hours.
