ADIB Optional Master's Degree Program

Students interested in the graduate certificate in Advanced IB Studies may also be interested in pursuing the optional Master’s Degree in Education: Curriculum & Instruction available through George Mason University’s Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning Program (ASTL).

The optional M.Ed. degree includes the five courses (15 credits) in the graduate certificate in Advanced IB Studies offered by FAST TRAIN.  Students complete the 30 credit hour M.Ed. degree by taking an additional 15 credits of coursework offered through the ASTL program.   Students who are accepted into the M.Ed. program can complete the FAST TRAIN and ASTL portions of the program simultaneously or in sequence.

With the completion of the M.Ed. degree, students are eligible to apply to the IB for a Teacher Award Level II.  In addition, because the M.Ed. is aligned with National Board Standards, students completing the M.Ed. are well positioned to sit for the National Board test.

Students who are interested in the M.Ed. degree must apply to the ASTL program directly.  To learn more about ASTL admissions requirements, visit the program's website.

Please note: the ASTL program is currently not offered in an online format.  Students pursuing the graduate certificate online will have to attend courses at the Fairfax, VA campus to complete the M.Ed.
