FAST TRAIN’s Elementary Education program is aligned with International Baccalaureate standards to give students who wish to teach in PYP schools the foundation in IB curriculum and standards necessary to succeed. Both Elementary programs (Full-time summer and part-time evening) have IB principles imbedded into the coursework. The formal recognition for completing the IB coursework is the IB Teacher Award Level I.
To earn the IB Teacher Award Level I students must complete additional requirements above the elementary licensure coursework. In addition to the six licensure courses, students must take the IB capstone course, EDUC621: Teaching and Learning the IB Primary Years. In addition, students must teach for one year in an IB school PYP program to be eligible for the award. The IB Teacher Award Level I recognizes superior understanding of the student learner and the principles and practices of the IB curriculum and exempts teachers from further IB mandated professional development. The IB capstone course is offered each summer immediately following FAST TRAIN’s intensive summer session. It is offered in the traditional FAST TRAIN executive format – 8 days in length from 8:30AM-4:30PM and is usually held the first week of August.
