Hellos and Goodbyes

WELCOME MS. DEB TUITE, OUTREACH COORDINATOR

I would like to welcome to our staff, Ms. Deb Tuite, who is our new Outreach Coordinator. Deb started working in the FAST TRAIN office at the end of January and is a very welcome addition to our staff. Deb has already made an impact and has enhanced the FAST TRAIN program. She is working with school districts both in Virginia and around the greater Washington area to offer on-site cohorts in primarily our ESOL program and our Certificate Program in Advanced IB Studies. Working tirelessly and creatively, she has made solid connections with several districts in Maryland who are interested in our IB program and has established an ESOL cohort in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. She has helped us rethink our recruitment and advertising efforts. We welcome Deb and look forward to her innovative ideas and expanding our programs.

FAREWELL TO FASTTRAIN AND GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY

After seventeen years at George Mason University and nine years as the Administrative Coordinator of FAST TRAIN Programs, I will be saying goodbye at the end of summer 2009. Jack and I will be moving to Boston to be closer to our beautiful new granddaughter, Mabel Stuart Forkner. I leave the program with sadness as I have worked with an incredible staff in FAST TRAIN, tremendous support within the College of Education and the university. Over the past nine years, I have watched the FAST TRAIN program grow. I have met amazing students, teachers, and administrators both locally through our district cohorts and through our international program. Both Jack and I have seen our FAST TRAIN students complete our program, work diligently as teachers, publish, start our doctoral program, then return to FAST TRAIN to complete the loop by teaching for FAST TRAIN. A success story indeed.

It has been my privilege to travel to many wonderful places around the world, to proudly recruit for the FAST TRAIN Program. Nothing pleases me more than to travel to a conference and meet with our students who are a true representative of the global citizens we all aspire to be; to have them drop by the FAST TRAIN table after years of completing the program, still talking about their experiences in FAST TRAIN is just incredible. I appreciate the support, the friendships that both Jack and I have made over the years and hope that you will all keep in touch with us as the years pass by. I am most appreciative of support within the FAST TRAIN office and the college.

The FAST TRAIN Program will be left in great hands as I pass on the baton. I feel confident that the program will expand to new horizons well beyond my ambitions and that it will continue to do what it was intended to do: Train excellent teachers to think out of the box and to promote international mindedness in a changing diverse world.

Best to all, Lynn
