Welcome to our spring edition of the FAST TRAIN newsletter

The entire staff in FAST TRAIN is preparing for the arrival of some 200 FAST TRAIN teachers for our summer programs. Many of you recall the intensity of beginning a new program, the friends and colleagues you met, and the late night study hours and field assignments!  We look forward to seeing all of you.

One of the rewards of being a part of FAST TRAIN is hearing all of your stories, the places you have traveled, and the teaching experiences that you have to share. I enjoy knowing that you appreciate the value of program and the support it provides as you grow in the profession. Listening to you, reading all of your evaluations and gathering feedback from graduates and employers continues to strengthen FAST TRAIN programs. During a recent international conference a superintendent came to our table with a colleague and remarked, “The best teachers come from the FAST TRAIN program".

The campus is changing rapidly with new buildings, new areas for relaxation and a conference hotel and center in the near future. The development is astounding and reflects the growth of our student population. The new Center for International Education is scheduled to open in 2010 and our FAST TRAIN programs will be located in that facility.

We welcomed a new Dean to the College, Dr. Gary Galluzzo, who is very supportive of our programs. Welcome also to Deb Tuite, who will be working in FAST TRAIN as an outreach coordinator.

The new Advanced Studies in the IB program continues to grow and attract teachers from all over the world. It will not be long before you close your classrooms, pack your bags and begin your travels. If you are returning to FAST TRAIN programs let us know how we can be of assistance.  If you are remaining in your current location please stay in touch and let us know how and what you are doing.  Over a thousand FAST TRAIN teachers are in some thirty countries around the world; do not be surprised if you meet a FT colleague along the way.

Warm Regards,
Bev Shaklee
Director, Center for International Education
